Planning and Design of Infrastructure Projects

Infrastructure Projects

Infrastructure projects are essential to enable new land development, densification of land,  create new public transport facilities, or to rejuvenate existing aging Infrastructure.

Infrastructure projects are vastly different from building projects with many factors such as management of the public, land factors, topography and terrain, climate changes, interfacing with existing infrastructure and future large scale planning to be considered.

Whilst building projects focus more on the individual user requirements, structural and worker safety, and productivity in construction, infrastructure projects, in addition to the above, need to consider broad impacts such as the following in both the permanent design as well as during the construction works:

  • Public safety
  • Traffic safety
  • Inconveniences to the public
  • Existing services such as power cables, gas lines, water lines and telecommunications line
  • Impacts to the environment
  • Existing trees, flora and fauna affected
  • Interfacing with existing infrastructure
  • Discharges to the public drainage system and sewer system
  • Reduced maintenance & safety of maintenance workers

Infrastructure projects commonly involve the following design elements:

  • Road geometric design, vertical and horizontal alignments
  • Junction and Signalisation design
  • Road and footpath diversions
  • Compliance with local codes of practices for public works
  • Hydraulic calculations, backwater analyses, drainage scheming
  • Sewer Capacity Calculations
  • Geotechnical design, slope stability
  • Temporary excavations
  • Demolition design
  • Land preparation
  • Earthworks and terrain modelling
  • Environmental Management Plans

ABL have completed numerous infrastructure projects over the years and have the full suit of skills to undertake all our designs with careful consideration of the above factors and design elements.

At ABL, we are experienced and familiar with the numerous requirements of the various agencies such as LTA, PUB, NParks, BCA, URA, SP, Singtel and ensure your projects are in compliance with such requirements.
